A Tale of JavaScript Performance

Dec. 9, 2017, 1:50 p.m. - 2:20 p.m.

Performance is key to success for many JavaScript applications today, where performance can mean different things like throughput, load time or responsiveness, all of which are highly dependent on optimizations in the JavaScript VM.

In this talk we'll briefly look into how V8 performs these optimizations, the benchmarks used to drive these optimizations, and how benchmarks, especially micro-benchmarks can fool you. We'll also cover how the V8 team changed the way they measure performance, to ensure that they improve real-world application latency and throughput rather than synthetic benchmark scores.
